Bluegrass Vineyard is a veteran-owned small business near Bowling Green, Kentucky. We began making wine in 2011 and are currently producing small batches of hand-crafted wines, all of which are fermented and bottled in Kentucky. These wines will be for sale at the Bowling Green farmer’s market beginning in 2017, just look for our iconic blue bottles!
The vineyard is located off I-65, exactly one mile south of the Smiths Grove exit 38. In the spring of 2015, we planted nearly 1,400 grape vines in our Smiths Grove vineyard with a significant amount of help from our neighbors, family and friends. Today we have more than 1,500 grape vines and expect to plant more in the coming years. You may have seen the blue and white covers on our vines, which protect them from animals and helps them to grow upright. The red varieties we currently offer include Cabernet Franc, Chambourcin, Villard Noir and Noiret. We also offer several white varieties such as Traminette, Vidal Blanc, Chardonel and Vignoles. In addition to wine grapes there are approximately 33 cherry trees, 150 black raspberry bushes, and 100 golden raspberry bushes on our property which are used to sweeten certain wines.
We are a community-oriented business and try to get others involved in the grape growing and wine making businesses. We are always looking for volunteers to help with grape harvesting, grape crushing, and early stages of wine making. We can offer lunch and photos for anyone who can help! If you would like more information about volunteering in the vineyard or hosting an event here, please email us for details.
In the future we hope to establish a Wine Trail between Cave Valley Wineryand Reid’s Livery Winery. When this happens we will provide updates about the process. In the meantime we invite you to read about our wines and provide feedback on particular wines you would like to see in the future!
