Baker-Bird Winery

The Baker-Bird Winery is the oldest, commercial winery in America that still has it’s original land which is located in Augusta, KY Out of about 7,000 wineries in America, the Baker-Bird Winery is one of 22 wineries on the National Historic Registry, the Vineyard land is on its own National Historic Registry and the only Winery that was in a Civil War battle. Did you know that half the wine consumed in America, at one point, came out of Augusta, KY? The Winery offers complementary historic tours including the largest, oldest wine cellar in America. Try a tasting of Kentucky wines while acoustic guitarist, Larry Puccini, plays classics. Plus, participate in special events like a Civil War dress ball, Chocolate Fest and a barrel tasting. After visiting the Winery, enjoy shopping, fine dining in several restaurants in charming Augusta and/or walk along the beautiful Ohio River.

It takes many years to make the Kentucky  Bourbon Barrel wine. That is, the Bourbon has to be in the barrel aged for years to soak deep enough in the wood that when the Cabernet Sauvignon  is added into the Bourbon barrel there is enough Bourbon to flavor the wine. The Bourbon barrels create a wine that is complex, rich and unique.

Activities: Wine tasting, historic tours of the winery, Music and party facilities can be rented. Deluxe Bed & Breakfast, Hawk Wood Hall is nearby.

Location: Augusta, KY at the corner of Rt 19 and 8, which is about 2 miles from AA (Rt 9) highway. Do not use GPS because it will take you to the wrong place.
