Baker-Bird Winery
The Baker – Bird Winery (R) is one of 22 wineries on the National Historic Registry out of about 3000 wineries in the U.S.A. The Winery is the oldest commercial estate winery in America with its orginal land. It was built by German immigrants that came from Baden (one of the great wine producing regions of Germany.) The German immigrants settled the Ohio River Valley around Augusta and produced fine wines of the America’s Rhineland(R) in the mid 1800s. The Winery provided safety to citizens during a Civil War battle and witnessed a new era of freedom for all in Americans with the Underground Railroad Trail at the doors of the Winery.
